Developed in the early 1700s, Hanover Square is in north east Mayfair, and offers an attractive view down to the impressive, grade one listed St George's Church.

St George's has been serving the area for hundreds of years, and was once considered a highly fashionable location for any society wedding. Today, St George's also plays host to a number of orchestral performances - find out more from Music In Mayfair.

At the south side of the square stands a statue of William Pitt the Younger. Reginald Colby recounts in his book, "Mayfair: A Town Within London", that on the day the statue was erected in 1831, a group of Reformists tried to pull it down before the opening ceremony but were thwarted by his solid construction and foundation.

The square today has few original buildings and is a mish mash of commercial buildings and office blocks.
